ARE YOU AN ICON?

This short series  examines and comments on the dehumanizing effects of commercial marketing strategies in the urban landscape.

The title is taken from a window display of an expensive fashion retailer.

The word ‘icon’ (derived from the Greek for 'image') is an interesting choice. It implies (rather unsubtly) that you are your appearance and the products offered for sale will make you a better, more attractive, more important person.

In this environment, the people look anxious, lonely and insensitive to each other. That’s my interpretation anyway but of course the viewer will draw their own conclusions.

The 17 images here were recorded in Vancouver with an old Nikon F using Kodak TMax 400.
